Being a travel junkie, there are a few fundamentals that I have gathered over my various weekend getaways, spontaneous trips, and even family vacations that I thought I would share today. Whether you are traveling with someone or to someone, there are a few things to consider in order to get the most out of your holiday…
1) The overall purpose of this trip
Seems obvious, right? However, it is important to clarify…is this intended to be purely a relaxing outing, a club-hopping rage, or exploration voyage? It could even be all the above. There is just no harm in setting the expectation! Imagine trying to meditate on the beach while your friend next to you is waiting for you with a tequila shot. Err…
2) Cuisine preferences
I LOVE trying different cuisines and do not discriminate against any sort of animal…I devour them all equally from the bottom of my heart. In fact, the more strange something sounds, the more I am likely to try it. Speaking of which, you have to try frog legs! Yum! (P.S. Please don’t unfollow me Vegans and Vegetarians.) Anyways, point is, you should know what your companion’s dietary restrictions are and be ready to accommodate them…even if that means forgoing your steakhouse cravings.
3) Planner Penny Vs. Spontaneous Sally
Again, there’s no right or wrong. But, everyone has a different style. Are you going with someone that likes to plan every minute of the day with an activity? Or, are you going with someone who likes to just go with the flow? Do they have FOMO aka Fear Of Missing Out? Can you adapt to their dynamic?
4) How much time you will spend together
Are you looking to bond during the vacation? Will you spend every minute together or will you also split and go do your own thing for a bit? I am a blend of both on trips where I love socializing but also like to disconnect to soak in whatever I am indulging in.
5) Romantic Status
Single and ready to mingle? Committed and not wanting to wing? Committed and hoping to brush up on your skills…I mean to help your friend in the mission ofcourse 😉 Whatever the scenario might be, it is good to mention the intention so no one feels that they have been flaked on or put in the corner.
These are just a few things to ponder about before embarking on any sort of traveling endeavor to ensure a wonderful trip. You can learn quite a few things about someone when they become your travel buddy…such as, how they react under pressure, how compact of a packer they are, what their level of adaptability, curiosity, and willingness to experiment is. Different styles can complement or clash and therefore it is crucial to take some time to determine if it is a good match before you commit to a trip with another. I hope you enjoyed this post of #PositivityFilter and thank you for reading. Also, enjoy these pictures from my most recent trip in Miami!
